I first used this coffeemaker while on a visit to my sister, who was very pleased with it. The coffee it made was consistently good, so on my return I purchased one.
My experience with it was marred by the infamous spillage problem while pouring the coffee. Sometimes it was OK and sometimes not, but I finally realized that the slightest lack of tightness in securing the top onto the pot would cause a leak--e g a tiny coffee ground. So the answer is scrupulous cleanliness and pressure on th......One problem with the DCC-450 - it doesn't make the coffee hot enough. If you drink it black and immediately, it might be hot; but add a little milk or drink with your morning paper and you'll have to re-heat your cup in the microwave. Too bad. Otherwise, I like the design & compactness.......This coffeemaker has a stainless steel carafe so it will not break. It is compact and yet makes a great cup of coffee.......My dh and I are trying to cut down on our coffee consumption for a number of reasons. We tried two different single serve pod coffee makers, and while he liked one of them, it made weak coffee for me. This 4-cup was on sale for a good price, and I decided to try it. It had the basic features that I wanted: a cone filter (we haven't liked basket coffee makers); an automatic shut off (for safety reasons) and good reviews overall about the taste. I was concerned about the dripping, but thought......The automatic turn off function is a very bad feature...burner goes off in a half hour and coffee gets cold...if I had understood this function I would not have bought this coffee maker...should be explained more clearly by manufacturer...my interpretation was that you could activate or deactivate this function.
